Stride Experiment

I argued with myself again to get out of bed before the sun came up – 4:45 on the clock and the dilemma between staying comfortable and warm or going out into the humid morning is real.

Consistency is the key – that is the message on my phone when my alarm rings – so I got up.

Grabbing an apple, struggling with my compression socks, and tying my shoes by the light of my phone’a flashlight so I don’t wake the family I step outside to the birds singing and the moon brightly smiling in the sky.

10 minutes of warm ups including squats, lunges, and the couch stretch I begin running on the spot, lean forward and go.

The distances today were 1k followed by 8x800m ending with 400m. My goal is was to maintain my form, particularly keeping my ankle from collapsing inward putting way too much pressure on the outside of my knee.

The shorter distances are nice to practice form – it’s nice to walk and reset, focusing on what a perfect stride feels like.

By the final 800m I felt like I had a nice stride where my knees were constantly bent, my legs were springy, and I was falling forward pulling my feet off the ground with my hamstrings.

Great way to start the day!
