Heart Rate Training

My last post was about looming disappointment stymied by some positive encouragement from my wonderful wife. Today I made up my run that I missed Wednesday morning.

After listening to Chris Hauth and Rich Roll on the Rich Roll Podcast I wanted to find my max heart rate. They suggested 5 x 1 mile intervals recording time and heart rate wth the average of each being the benchmarks for the day.

Based on my fitness level and available time I went with 4 x 1 kilometre intervals recording my times and heart rate. Further into my training I will revisit the 5 x 1 mile intervals, but for today it is what it is.

My average time was 4:31 with an average heart rate of 157.

The goal of this exercise is to determine my max heart rate so I can find my zone 2 heart rate. Based on my numbers my zone 2 heart rate is just under 120 at 117.

The majority of my training with be in Zone 2 to stimulate mitochondrial growth!
