Run Naturally

For a small bit of time every day or so I like to cast aside the shackles of modernity and run barefoot.

These shackles aren’t so bad really, these shackles provide me with a level of safety never before seen in history, I have a steady food supply, ready access to information, and leisure time to do fun stuff. But these shackles are limiting. We trade nature, and all of its raw struggle, for comfort.

Struggle is important because it forces us to adapt. To struggle with something, be persistent, and learn new skills to handle the situation feels good. But it is hard to do when the choice is a comfortable couch, chips, and a football game.

I feel like I need to create situations in which I will struggle – thus I run naturally, which is to say that I run barefoot.
