Night Run

I think tonight was the first time that I ran at night – I like the morning calm much better but I also like not having to get up at 4am to experience the darkness.

Tonights run made sense – grappling was cancelled, kids are sleeping, and Grey’s Anatomy started so my wife is enamoured in that! It’s a non-disruptive 5k that I didn’t want to do but Amanda encouraged me.

I love running but I hate starting. Running still doesn’t come easy to me – as if 3 months of serious running and a year of laxidazical running can justify that statement. Once I am out concentrating on only my form everything else melts away.

My breath, my pull, and my landing is all I concentrate on. Seems boring, my mind wants to wonder, but I know that when it does my form goes out the window and little pains start.

Our half-marathon is on Sunday – this upcoming Sunday. I am unsure if I will run again before the race – I may sneak in a 3.5 Saturday morning.

Either way the goal for my next run is form and technique. Focus on pulling to recovery and falling. I do this by contracting my hamstring to lift my foot off the ground. There is no knee drive and there is no push off – simply flex, lift and fall.

Happy running.
