Open Water Scuba

The sun tried hard to come out but the overcast clouded the sky. Air around 6 degrees and water around 9 degrees. No visibility yesterday so we cancelled, today was mildly better at 2 feet of visibility.

The first step in was exhilarating and cold – it had my undivided attention. The cold took a step back but never went away – breathing underwater and the respect that deserves took center stage.

Down 25 feet on a line and skills on a line – it was common for the person in front of me to be lost in the poor visibility so that’s i could only see legs, or shadows. I was able to stay calm throughout and there was only one time I felt a change. I don’t know how to describe it – perhaps like standing up too quickly without the rush to the eyes. It was brief – it was almost like confusion without the loss of reason – a disorientation. It was maybe 10 feet or so from the surface.

Regardless of the poor conditions the dive was rad. I laughed after we surfaced from the first dive because I enjoyed the experience so much – and I know with better conditions there will be better experiences.

I haven’t been running as much as I have been focused on Scuba, but now that it is mostly done I will up my kilometers again. The plan is still to run 40k before the New Year.
